Excess sweating and botulinum toxin

Excess sweating of the underarms or the extremities, hands or feet, causes considerable social embarrassment leading to a feeling of despair among suffering patients, with few solutions on offer to them.

The cutting of the deep nerves (sympathectomy) is a serious procedure involving a significant post-operative course and is therefore hardly practised anymore.
For the feet and the hands, electrophoresis is a simple solution that can give a certain degree of satisfaction, although it is a little inconvenient.

But it is with excess sweating of the underarms that botulinum toxin performs wonders. One injection allows excess sweating or indeed even normal sweating to disappear for several months, meaning that the patient no longer has to change clothes several times a day, or suffer a faster-than-usual deterioration in their wardrobe.
Just as with other parts of the body, this type of botulinum toxin injection in the underarms is not painful; however, the one drawback is the price, since the dose needed is greater than that required for facial aesthetics.

Indeed, each session costs €750, with approximately two sessions required per year, but the good news is that for most patients, the effect on excess sweating seems to improve in terms of efficacy and duration from session to session.
